The “Meet Suzhou in Singapore” Culture Week scheduled in Singapore from Apr 10 to 16 is expected to promote the Chinese-Singaporean friendship to reach a new level.

Sponsored by the government of Suzhou, a famous city in East China’s Jiangsu province, China, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, the culture week is one of a series of events designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of SIP, a cooperative project between Chinese and Singaporean governments, and also one of the events of the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

The event incorporates the opening ceremony, a poetry and photography exhibition, art performances, a food festival and other components to showcase Suzhou to the participants in an all-around way.

The poetry and photography exhibition gathers works by Chinese and Singaporean poets and Suzhou-native photographers. Suzhou Ballet Theatre will perform a new version of the classic ballet “Swan Lake”, and Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre will stage “The Peony Pavilion”.

Additionally, the participants have the chances to learn about various traditional Chinese handicrafts that are recognized as intangible cultural heritage, enjoy folk performances, sample delicious food from Suzhou, and watch “Suzhou Gardens in Six Chapters”, a documentary about the classical gardens of Suzhou.
