Jointly sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) and China Social Investment Forum (China SIF), the workshop on Climate Mitigation Journey (CMJ) was held in SIP on Aug 23.

Founded in 1992, UNEP FI was the first organization to engage the finance sector on sustainability and incubated the Principles for Responsible Investment, now the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment.

The CMJ is a manual for banks outlining the business capabilities they need to build and iterate for years to come as they are looking to align themselves with the Paris goal of 1.5°C global warming and net zero.

The event brought together experts, scholars, representatives of financial institutions and other elites from different industries to discuss strategies of coping with climate change and financial institutions’ potential and role in mitigating climate change.

In the keynote session, Carlota Gómez Tapia, Climate Mitigation and Net Zero Coordinator for APAC Region at UNEP FI, delivered a speech entitled “The Climate Mitigation Journey in the Chinese Context” based on international standards.

Qian Qiang, vice president of SynTao Green Finance and senior communication advisor of UNEP FI China, shared his insights on “Practices of Carbon Emission Measurement in China”.

Guo Ru, professor and doctoral supervisor at College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, and vice president of Carbon Neutrality Research Institute of the university, gave a speech on “Green and Low-Carbon Transformation of Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Zone”.

Lin Ting, deputy secretary general of Jiangsu Banking Association, gave a speech on “Innovative Practices of Green Finance in Jiangsu Banking Industry”.

At the roundtable, several guests shared experience in climate mitigation and exchanged opinions on future plans.
