The first session of the “Straw Sandals ? Social Service” program launched by Weiting Sub-district Social Work Station late last year wrapped up recently. Over the past few months, the station joined hands with five social organizations to carry out six projects for public benefits.

The “Blossoming toward the Sun” project offered fifteen 4- to 12-year-old mentally challenged children help in improving their behaviors and communication skills.

The “Direction of the Heart” project benefited 11 families with 10- to 18-year-old youths who disliked study, suffered emotional distress or spent too much time on Internet. It helped four youngsters return to school and over 70% of the participating families improve parent-child relationship, and resolved two psychological crises.

The “Public-benefit Markets” project comprised six events that brought various handy services to over 2,000 residents.

The “Versatile Moms” project consisted of a series of classes such as those on storytelling, flower arrangement and home education to help moms pick up more parenting skills.

The “Cozy Life” project integrated group and individual counseling to help families with relationship issues.

The “Nutrition for Happy Families” project provided chances for children and their parents to learn knowledge on nutrition, make healthy food and experience farming together.

It is learned that the second session of the program will encompass seven projects undertaken by six social organizations.
